They brought the man who used to be blind to the Pharisees. 14 <\/sup>The day that Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes was a Sabbath. 15 <\/sup>Then the Pharisees asked him again how he received his sight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe put mud on my eyes,\u201d he told them. \u201cI washed and I can see.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

16 <\/sup>Some of the Pharisees said, \u201cThis man is not from God, because he doesn\u2019t keep the Sabbath.\u201d But others were saying, \u201cHow can a sinful man perform such signs?\u201d And there was a division among them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

17 <\/sup>Again they asked the blind man, \u201cWhat do you say about him, since he opened your eyes?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a prophet,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

18 <\/sup>The Jews did not believe this about him\u2014that he was blind and received sight\u2014until they summoned the parents of the one who had received his sight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

19 <\/sup>They asked them, \u201cIs this your son, the one you say was born blind? How then does he now see?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

20 <\/sup>\u201cWe know this is our son and that he was born blind,\u201d his parents answered. 21 <\/sup>\u201cBut we don\u2019t know how he now sees, and we don\u2019t know who opened his eyes. Ask him; he\u2019s of age. He will speak for himself.\u201d 22 <\/sup>His parents said these things because they were afraid of the Jews, since the Jews had already agreed that if anyone confessed him as the Messiah, he would be banned from the synagogue. 23 <\/sup>This is why his parents said, \u201cHe\u2019s of age; ask him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

24 <\/sup>So a second time they summoned the man who had been blind and told him, \u201cGive glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

25 <\/sup>He answered, \u201cWhether or not he\u2019s a sinner, I don\u2019t know. One thing I do know: I was blind, and now I can see!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

26 <\/sup>Then they asked him, \u201cWhat did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

27 <\/sup>\u201cI already told you,\u201d he said, \u201cand you didn\u2019t listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don\u2019t want to become his disciples too, do you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

28 <\/sup>They ridiculed him: \u201cYou\u2019re that man\u2019s disciple, but we\u2019re Moses\u2019s disciples. 29 <\/sup>We know that God has spoken to Moses. But this man\u2014we don\u2019t know where he\u2019s from.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

30 <\/sup>\u201cThis is an amazing thing!\u201d the man told them. \u201cYou don\u2019t know where he is from, and yet he opened my eyes. 31 <\/sup>We know that God doesn\u2019t listen to sinners, but if anyone is God-fearing and does his will, he listens to him. 32 <\/sup>Throughout history[c<\/a>]<\/sup> no one has ever heard of someone opening the eyes of a person born blind. 33 <\/sup>If this man were not from God, he wouldn\u2019t be able to do anything.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

34\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cYou were born entirely in sin,\u201d\u00a0they replied, \u201cand are you trying to teach us?\u201d Then they threw him out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
