There are already roughly 80,000 federally licensed firearms dealers. Administration officials believe the new rule will impact more than 20,000 dealers who have gotten away with selling firearms without a license and performing background checks at places like gun shows and over the internet by claiming they aren\u2019t \u201cengaged in the business\u201d of firearm sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis final rule does not infringe on anyone\u2019s Second Amendment rights, and it will not negatively impact the many law-abiding licensed firearms dealers in our nation,\u201d ATF Director Steve Dettelbach said. \u201cThey are already playing by the rules.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Second Amendment Institute told Fox News Digital the ATF\u2019s new rule is “another example of them going beyond their statutory authority for political purposes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It infringes upon the rights of law-abiding citizens and adds unnecessary burdens to those seeking to exercise their Second Amendment rights,” the organization said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Gun Owners of America\u2019s Director of Federal Affairs Aidan Johnston accused the Biden administration of “weaponizing every tool in their tool box to intimidate, harass, and criminalize gun owners with unlawful executive actions.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This Backdoor Universal Registration Check rule is nothing more than a move to criminalize the sale of a single gun without a background check. By doing so, the government hopes to ensure that they are fully involved in every firearm transfer, and eventually the records of all those transfers will end up in their records database, which we have confirmed the existence of through FOIA requests, leaks, and congressional inquiry,” Johnston said in a statement to Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
