GOP Gubernatorial candidate Youngkin reveals ‘day 1’ plan for Virginia

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Virginia governor candidate Glenn Youngkin just announced his Day One game plan.

Youngkin says his top priority is to work to get the cost of living down by lowering taxes so that more people stay in Virginia.

More specifically, the Republican says he wants to eliminate grocery tax, suspend gas tax and double the standard deduction for Virginians.

He wants to declare a one-time tax rebate.

He also says he’s going to exclude up to $40,000 of veterans’ retirement from income tax.

Youngkin says his administration will invest in law enforcement and mental health.

He says he also will ban critical race theory and launch 20 innovative charter schools.

“Day One is going to be busy,” Youngkin said. “There will be a Day Two and a Day Three, but we’ve got a lot to get done on Day One, but Virginians can count on a Glenn Youngkin administration to start strong and deliver for him.”

Youngkin says the best way to combat COVID-19 and keep Virginia safe is to encourage the vaccine.

He says he does not believe in mandates. He believes people just need more education on the merits of the vaccine.

His opponent, Democrat Terry McAuliffe, says his plan is to invest in public education, make healthcare more affordable and create thousands of good-paying jobs.
