{"id":268,"date":"2021-09-02T05:15:56","date_gmt":"2021-09-02T05:15:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.whatistandfor.co\/conservativecitizen\/?p=268"},"modified":"2021-09-02T05:15:57","modified_gmt":"2021-09-02T05:15:57","slug":"bvirginia-republican-glenn-youngkin-unveils-day-one-plan-tax-cuts-bans-on-critical-race-theory-lockdowns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/whatistandfor.co\/conservativecitizen\/bvirginia-republican-glenn-youngkin-unveils-day-one-plan-tax-cuts-bans-on-critical-race-theory-lockdowns\/","title":{"rendered":"(B)Virginia Republican Glenn Youngkin Unveils \u2018Day One\u2019 Plan: Tax Cuts; Bans on Critical Race Theory, Lockdowns"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>FAIRFAX, Virginia \u2014 Republican Glenn Youngkin, who is running for governor of Virginia, laid out his \u201cday one game plan\u201d on Monday, emphasizing new tax cuts to offset struggles with cost inflation and reassuring his supporters he would rid classrooms of Critical Race Theory (CRT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Youngkin, a former CEO of the Carlyle Group, formally introduced his five-pronged plan to a few hundred of his supporters at a warehouse in Northern Virginia, detailing his promises to cut taxes, support police, create jobs, raise education standards, and tackle government waste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn a few short years, Virginia has become California east. It happened quickly,\u201d Youngkin said of his blue-leaning state, assessing that \u201cthe only thing we have to do differently is everything.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Youngkin\u2019s tax plan includes eliminating the state\u2019s 2.5 percent grocery tax and temporarily suspending last year\u2019s tax increase on gasoline. It also involves one-time rebates of $600 for joint filers and $300 for individuals, tax holidays for businesses, reduced taxes on veterans\u2019 retirement pay, and doubling the standard deduction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Citing the need for a \u201ccheck on runaway property taxes, on a government that benefits from escalating inflation,\u201d Youngkin also said he plans to require local voter approval before allowing any future property tax increases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Youngkin, a wealthy businessman who spent 25 years in private equity after earning his MBA at Harvard Business School, touts himself as a political outsider as he competes with a political insider and longtime Clinton ally, former Gov. (Win McNamee\/Getty Images)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI will be the jobs governor of Virginia,\u201d Youngkin said, adding he would aim to create 400,000 jobs during his tenure, as well as maintain Virginia\u2019s Right to Work protection, a promise McAuliffe has repeatedly&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/07\/20\/virginia-democrat-terry-mcauliffe-banks-2-2-million-unions-anti-right-work-remarks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wavered<\/a>&nbsp;on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Youngkin also guaranteed he would never permit coronavirus lockdowns on businesses, contending, \u201cThe ruling class in Richmond is totally insulated from the everyday struggles of small-business owners, entrepreneurs, and working Virginians.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>General contractor C.J. Coakley Co. hosted the event in its warehouse. The company\u2019s president, Michael Coakley, is an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2021\/05\/06\/fairfax-should-put-its-taxpayers-workers-first\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">advocate<\/a>&nbsp;for the construction industry who has known Youngkin as a family friend for years and said their children went to school together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coakley told Breitbart News Youngkin\u2019s jobs plan resonates with him as his business grapples with a labor shortage. \u201cAnytime we can get more people to come back to work it will be great for us because we\u2019re trying to hire a hundred people right now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asked why he supports Youngkin in his race, Coakley asserted, \u201cI\u2019ll align with a business person all day over a lawyer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Youngkin-friendly crowd applauded the Virginia Republican throughout his speech, but Youngkin\u2019s vow during his education segment to ban CRT in classrooms generated the loudest reactions of support and was accompanied by chants of \u201cThank you Glenn! (Breitbart News)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The gubernatorial candidate has repeatedly condemned CRT, which has become a catchall term in classrooms for teaching students that white people are inherently racist and that racism is systemic in America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Youngkin, speaking in perhaps the country\u2019s most heated region for the CRT debate, said he views teaching the theory as infusing a divisive \u201cpolitical agenda\u201d into classrooms, while McAuliffe, whose campaign is heavily backed by teachers\u2019 unions, has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/06\/30\/terry-mcauliffe-calls-critical-race-theory-right-wing-conspiracy-his-nea-endorser-says-its-teaching-the-truth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dismissed<\/a>&nbsp;CRT as a \u201cright-wing conspiracy theory.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Youngkin has been just barely trailing McAuliffe in polls \u2014 and often within margins of error \u2014 but nevertheless faces an uphill battle in the Democrat-run state, especially where he spoke, in Fairfax, the state\u2019s most populous county and one that is highly concentrated with blue voters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Virginia Republican concluded, \u201cIf you liked the last eight years, then it makes perfect sense to look back to a past, recycled leader, but I envision a different future for Virginia. \u2026 I cannot wait to go work for you on day one.
