LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Republican candidate for Governor Glenn Youngkin made a stop in Lynchburg Tuesday to meet with local sheriffs.

Youngkin spoke at a sheriff’s conference at Liberty University, where he vowed to increase compensation among departments. He plans to also invest in better equipment and more training.
Youngkin also says he will protect qualified immunity.

During the conference, he listened to several local sheriffs share their concerns about the crises of mental health in the area. He says his administration is committed to listening and working to find solutions to better serve the men and women in blue.
“We’re going to make sure that sheriffs, deputies, police, troopers across Virginia know that their governor has their back,” Youngkin said
